ACADIA 2020 invites four types of submissions for this year's conference:
1. TECHNICAL PAPERS
2. PROJECTS
3. VIDEOS
4. FIELD NOTES

1. Peer-Reviewed Research Papers - Extended Abstracts (1,000 word max)

Paper Submissions to ACADIA 2020 are now closed. Thank you.

This year, given the extraordinary circumstances, ACADIA 2020 will shift from a full paper submission to a blind peer-review extended abstract submission format (1,000 words). We invite abstracts for two categories of work:

(a) Technical Papers describe work that is embedded within significant bodies of research or creative practice. A technical paper is categorized by research-based projects, design processes, and/or novel techniques and methods which contribute to the advancement of the field of computational design. Abstracts must emphasize the significance of the work and its historical, scientific, and/or theoretical context. Abstracts may also be entirely historical or theoretical in nature. If the abstract is selected for the conference, authors will be invited to submit a full-length paper (max 4,000 words).

(b) Work-in-Progress Papers describe developing work or an individual project which has yet to be placed within a larger context of ongoing research. A work-in-progress paper is categorized by a novel project, method and/or design approach which has the potential to contribute to the advancement of the field of computational design. If the abstract is selected for the conference, authors will be invited to submit a work-in-progress paper (max 2,000 words).

Abstracts should be no longer than 1,000 words, excluding captions and endnotes. Low-resolution images and captions should be embedded in the abstract. All identifying names, places, programs, institutions, and firms must be omitted from the paper to maintain an anonymous review process.

Extended abstracts selected for presentation to the conference will be invited to produce a short video presentation for the conference, and will be invited to submit full-length papers (4000-word Full papers or 2000-word Work-In-Progress Papers) for publication in the proceedings. If the paper is accepted, the author will be asked to make revisions based on the blind review comments and to reformat according to the ACADIA 2020 template for publishing. Published papers will be included in the CumInCad database. All ACADIA papers are searchable through ResearchGate and Scopus.

Extended Abstracts must utilize the template provided through the link below, be saved as a PDF, and submitted via the SUBMIT a PAPER link above.

All paper submissions shall adhere to the 2020 ACADIA Publication Ethics Guidelines.

IMPORTANT DATES - TECHNICAL PAPER SUBMISSIONS:

Extended Abstract Submission Deadline: June 15, 2020 Extended to June 24, 2020
Notification of Acceptance: August 18, 2020
Presentation Videos Due: October 1, 2020
Paper Submissions Due: November 20, 2020
Review Period for Final Papers: December, 2020
Final Paper Submissions Due for Proceedings: January, 2021

2. Peer-Reviewed Projects

Project Submissions to ACADIA 2020 are now closed. Thank you.

The global pandemic has triggered a myriad of experiments in remoteness, improvised virtual communities and retooling fabrication. This novel condition offers room for reflection on the priorities of the field and the coevolutionary nature of our planet, society and built environment: a chance to imagine alternate futures.

With this current ecology in mind, Distributed Proximities invites contributions oscillating between computational design innovations and culture. In addition to completed research, this year’s ACADIA conference offers the opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look into the formative stage of new research that particularly addresses the impact of Covid-19 to the discipline.

Project submissions should consist of a title, a project description of no more than 600 words (excluding endnotes and captions), plus a maximum of 10 images, formatted within a letter-sized or A4 document (landscape layout) and submitted via the conference submission website as a single, multipage PDF. The text description should comprise the first page of the PDF and each image should be formatted to fit on a single page, oriented either horizontally or vertically. Captions are strongly encouraged as part of the image pages. All identifying names, places, programs, institutions, and firms must be omitted from the paper to maintain an anonymous review process.

Project submissions will be blind peer reviewed. Projects selected for the conference will be published in a special Projects publication and featured on the ACADIA website in image and/or video form. Select submissions may be invited to contribute a video presentation and/or participate in a discussion panel during the virtual conference.

All project submissions shall adhere to the 2020 ACADIA Publication Ethics Guidelines.

IMPORTANT DATES - PROJECT SUBMISSIONS:

Submission Deadline: June 22, 2020 Extended to July 1, 2020
Notification of Acceptance: August 18, 2020
Revised/formatted materials Due: October 1, 2020

3. Videos

Video Submissions to ACADIA 2020 are now closed. Thank you.

This year, standalone videos are a new submission type to the ACADIA Conference, as an alternative to the traditional paper or project submission formats. We invite authors to consider the use of video as a medium to explore experimental, behind-the-scenes, in-progress material that sheds light on aspects of work that can sometimes go unnoticed or unrepresented in conventional paper submissions. Some examples of these might include documentation of an interface design for a game platform; innovative fabrication workflows; or tours of lab or production facilities.

Video submissions should consist of a 5-minute long (max) video in MP4 format, 1080p resolution (1920p x 1080p) H.264 codec preferred. Simultaneous submissions to Papers/Projects and Videos are possible; each submission will be evaluated on its own merits. Video submissions will be reviewed and selected by a jury.

All video submissions shall adhere to the 2020 ACADIA Publication Ethics Guidelines.

IMPORTANT DATES - VIDEO SUBMISSIONS:

Video Submission Deadline: June 29, 2020 Extended to July 10, 2020
Notification of Acceptance: August 18, 2020

4. Field Notes

Field Notes Submissions to ACADIA 2020 are now closed. Thank you.

Field Notes are a new submission type to the 2020 ACADIA Conference and are an invitation for shorter pieces that may include provocative artifacts regarding the culture and practice of computational design: experimental ideas, behind-the-scenes, observations, brief narratives, provocations, and manifestoes.

Field Notes submissions shall consist of a short text (800-1,000 words max), annotated images, image-based essays, or similar. Emphasis is on content rather than format. Submissions will be jury selected and published in the Project Book and as a special feature on the ACADIA website. Select submissions may be invited to participate in a discussion panel during the virtual conference.

All field notes submissions shall adhere to the 2020 ACADIA Publication Ethics Guidelines.

IMPORTANT DATES - FIELD NOTES SUBMISSIONS:

Field Notes Submission Deadline: June 22, 2020 Extended to July 10, 2020
Notification of Acceptance: August 18, 2020
